Release Info: No Code is the fourth studio album by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam, released on August 27, 1996 through Epic Records. Following a troubled tour for its previous album, Vitalogy (1994), in which Pearl Jam engaged in a much-publicized boycott of Ticketmaster, the band went into the studio to record its follow-up. The music on the record was even more diverse than what the band had done on previous releases, incorporating elements of garage rock, worldbeat, and experimentalism.

Although No Code debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, it left a large section of the band’s fanbase unsatisfied and quickly fell down the charts. The album became the first Pearl Jam album to not reach multi-platinum status. The album has been certified platinum by the RIAA in the United States.

No Code would be the band's last album to reach #1 in the US until the 2009 album Backspacer.

For its fourth album, Pearl Jam again worked with producer Brendan O'Brien. No Code was the band's first album with drummer Jack Irons, who had joined the band following the release of Vitalogy. Following the summer U.S. leg of the band's Vitalogy Tour, the band began work on No Code in Chicago, Illinois in July 1995 during the infamous Chicago heat wave. The Chicago session lasted a week. During a break in a string of make-up dates for the 1995 tour the band went into the studio for a week-long session in New Orleans, Louisiana, where the band recorded "Off He Goes". The rest of the recording took place in the first half of 1996 in Seattle, Washington at Studio Litho, which is owned by guitarist Stone Gossard. The album was then mixed by O'Brien at his mixing facility at Southern Tracks in Atlanta, Georgia.

The album package consists of 144 Polaroid photos that unfold into a 2x2 square. The Polaroid photos are seemingly random. One of the photos featured on the front cover is the eyeball of former Chicago Bulls player, as well as fan and friend of Pearl Jam, Dennis Rodman, while another photo is of Vedder's foot after he had been stung by a stingray. The pictures, when viewed from afar, blend to form the No Code triangle/eyeball logo that is the theme throughout the album. Later pressings of the album fold into a 1x4 strip, thus losing the 'hidden message' effect. These later pressings also include the band name and album title printed directly onto the album cover—the original release contained this information on a removable sticker. Hidden allusions to the central packaging concept are a common trait among many Pearl Jam albums. There were nine different covers for the cassette, each one a different Polaroid found on the CD and vinyl.

The CD and vinyl came with lyrics printed on the back of replica Polaroids. Only nine Polaroids came in a set, leaving one to have to obtain another set to accumulate all thirteen songs. Even for the same songs, there were different pictures on some of the Polaroids between the different sets. The sets are divided into four groups: set C, set O, set D and set E.

When discussing the album's title, Vedder said "it's called No Code because it's full of code. It's misinformation." In medical terminology, a "no code" order is a medical order to withhold CPR on a patient. It is also known as a "do not resuscitate" order. In another interview, Vedder said that "if the record is a complete failure you've kind of owned up to it in a subliminal way. No Code was the same thing. For me, No Code meant 'Do Not Resuscitate'."

Release Info: Vitalogy is the third studio album by the American grunge band Pearl Jam, released on November 22, 1994 through Epic Records. Pearl Jam wrote and recorded Vitalogy while touring behind its previous album Vs. (1993). The music on the record was more diverse than previous releases, and consists of aggressive rock songs, ballads, and several experimental tracks. Vitalogy was packaged in a booklet that replicated material from a 1920s medical book.

For their third album, Pearl Jam again worked with producer Brendan O'Brien. The band wrote many of the songs during soundchecks during its Vs. Tour and the majority of the album's tracks were recorded during breaks on the tour.

Vitalogy was released first on vinyl on November 22, 1994, two weeks before the CD release. It debuted at number 55 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album sold 35,000 copies in its first week of release. It was the first vinyl album to appear on the chart due to vinyl sales since the proliferation of compact discs. When Vitalogy was released on CD and cassette on December 6, 1994, it reached number one on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album sold more than 877,000 copies in its first week of release on CD and became the second-fastest-selling CD in history, behind only the band's previous release Vs. Vitalogy has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA, and, as of March 2007, has sold 4.7 million copies in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Vitalogy album booklet and disc.The album is packaged in a booklet based on a book from the 1920s Vedder found at a garage sale. Ament stated, "Ed brought in that book, and we said man that would make a great album cover." He explained that from Vs. onwards the band tried to take different approaches to packaging its records. Ament said, "We tried really hard, to make it like a book, kind of tipped it so it opened horizontally, which pissed off record stores: they had to put it in sideways." The packaging cost an extra 50 cents per copy. Problems arose when the band discovered that later versions of the book were still under copyright. The band had to confer with their lawyers in order to work out a final version utilizing the material they wanted to include with the album.

The booklet contains outdated discussions of health and well-being. Other notes in the booklet, dealing with life and death reflections, seem to be more personal, like a message typed on one of the last pages, supposedly referring to the loss of a loved one ("I waited all day. you waited all day.. but you left before sunset.. and I just wanted to tell you the moment was beautiful. Just wanted to dance to bad music drive bad cars.. watch bad TV.. should have stayed for the sunset... if not for me."). The booklet also displays some poems or original sayings not belonging to the songs' lyrics, but to be interpreted as a commentary to the songs and, again, as a reflection on how life should or shouldn't be lived. An example is the poem typed on the "Aye Davanita" page. The song's subtitle is "The song without words", as it is an instrumental track. But the page displays a sort of poem about the wasted life of a young girl. Another episode of "intruder words" is on the "Not for You" lyrics page. After the second refrain, instead of the actual lyrics, the typed words give a hint about the Sisyphus myth ("Yeah, you call me Sisyphus love. Yeah, I move the rock. I just don't want to talk about moving the rock. Anything that distracts me from moving the rock"). The lyrics to "Whipping" are written on a copy of a petition to Bill Clinton against Pro-Life killings of abortionists. An X-ray of Vedder's teeth was pictured instead of lyrics on the page for "Corduroy".

The original title for the album was Life. The first single, "Spin the Black Circle", was released before the album was released, and on the back of the single it states "From the Epic album Life." The album title Vitalogy comes from the early 20th Century medical book from which the cover art and liner notes are based. Vitalogy literally means "the study of life."

Release Info: Vs. is the second studio album by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam, released on October 19, 1993 through Epic Records. After a relentless touring schedule in support of its debut album, Ten (1991), Pearl Jam headed into the studio in early 1993 facing the challenge of following up the commercial success of its debut. The resulting album, Vs., featured a rawer and more aggressive sound compared with the band's previous release.

Pearl Jam decided to scale back its commercial efforts for Vs., including declining to produce music videos for any of the album’s singles. Upon its release, Vs. set the record for most copies of an album sold in its first week, a record it held for five years. Vs. occupied the number one spot on the Billboard 200 for five weeks, the longest duration for a Pearl Jam album. The album has been certified seven times platinum by the RIAA in the United States.

For its second album, Pearl Jam felt the pressures of trying to match the success of its debut album, Ten. In a 2002 interview, guitarist Mike McCready said, "The band was blown up pretty big and everything was pretty crazy." Vs. was the first Pearl Jam album to have production duties handled by producer Brendan O'Brien. It was also the band's first album with drummer Dave Abbruzzese, who had joined the band in August 1991 and toured for the album Ten. Rehearsals for Vs. began in February 1993 at Potatohead Studio in Seattle, Washington. The band then moved to The Site in Nicasio, California in March 1993 to begin recording. Abbruzzese called the tranquil recording site "paradise" while lead vocalist Eddie Vedder said, "I fucking hate it here...I've had a hard time...How do you make a rock record here?"

The band took the approach of recording one song at a time, and agreed with O'Brien to mix the songs as each one was finished. O'Brien had the band members set up much as they do live, and most of the songs were developed out of jam sessions. Guitarist Stone Gossard said, "I think we allowed things to develop in a more natural, band-oriented sort of way, rather than me bringing in a bunch of stuff that was already arranged." Gossard added that most of the songs were arranged once Vedder joined in and started singing, elaborating, "You could tell when the music wanted to change just by the way he was singing." In a 2009 interview, Gossard stated, "[Vs.] was probably where it felt better recording wise. I saw how it could change and evolve which gave me a lot of inspiration to go we can do ballads, we can do fast stuff, we can do slow stuff, we can do punk stuff. That was where I realized there were gonna be a lot of places to go with Ed."

The songs on the album tackle personal as well as social and political concerns. Vedder said that "you write what comes to you... You try to reflect the mood of the songs." Topics on the album include child abuse ("Daughter"), gun culture ("Glorified G"), police racism ("W.M.A."), and the media ("Blood"). "Daughter", "Dissident", and "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" are three storytelling songs. "Daughter" tells the story of a child who is abused by her parents because they do not understand her learning disability; "Dissident" tells the story of a woman who takes in a political fugitive; and "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" tells the story of an old lady who has been stuck in a small town her whole life.

"Glorified G", a song mocking gun enthusiasts, was inspired by an incident in which Abbruzzese told the band he had just bought two guns which sparked a conversation about guns within the band. "W.M.A." was inspired by an incident that happened outside Pearl Jam's rehearsal studio in which Vedder got into an altercation with a group of police officers who hassled a black friend of his but ignored him. Vedder said that "Rearviewmirror" is about being "in a car, leaving...a bad situation." Vedder stated that "Rats" is about the idea that "rats are probably a hell of a lot more admirable" than humans. "Leash" was written about the same girl that the Ten song "Why Go" is about. Regarding "Indifference", Vedder said it is about "[trying to] do something to make some other peoples' lives better than they are, even if it means going through hell."

Vs. debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart and stayed there for five weeks. Vs. sold 950,378 copies in its first week and outperformed all other entries in the Billboard top ten that week combined. This set the record for most copies of an album sold in its first week of release. Vs. held this record for five years before it was broken by Garth Brooks' 1998 album, Double Live. Vs. has been certified seven times platinum by the RIAA, and, as of March 2007, has sold 5.9 million copies in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The album's cover art, photographed by Ament, features a black and white picture of a sheep from a farm in Hamilton, Montana. According to Ament, the cover was a representation of how the band felt at the time, with Ament stating "we were slaves." The album booklet contains additional drawings and writings by Vedder, including one page apparently doodled at a business meeting that says "I will never trust anybody again." The lyric page for "W.M.A." features a portion of a news story concerning Malice Green, allegedly a victim of police brutality.

Release Info: Ten is the debut studio album by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam, released on August 27, 1991 through Epic Records. Following the disbanding of bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard's previous group Mother Love Bone, the two recruited vocalist Eddie Vedder, guitarist Mike McCready, and drummer Dave Krusen to form Pearl Jam in 1990. Most of the songs began as instrumental jams, to which Vedder added lyrics about topics such as depression, homelessness, and abuse.

Ten was not an immediate success, but by late 1992 it had reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The album produced three hit singles: "Alive", "Even Flow", and "Jeremy". While Pearl Jam was accused of jumping on the grunge bandwagon at the time, Ten was instrumental in popularizing alternative rock in the mainstream. The album has been certified diamond by the RIAA in the United States, selling over 9,800,000 copies, and remains Pearl Jam's most successful album.

San Diego musician Eddie Vedder acquired a copy of the demo in September 1990, when it was given to him by former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons. Vedder listened to the demo, went surfing, and wrote lyrics the next day for "Dollar Short", "Agytian Crave", and "Footsteps". "Dollar Short" and "Agytian Crave" were later retitled "Alive" and "Once", respectively. Gossard and Ament heard the demo with Vedder's vocals and lyrics, and were impressed enough to fly Vedder out to Seattle for an audition. Meanwhile, Vedder had written lyrics for "E Ballad", retitled "Black". Vedder arrived on October 13, 1990 and rehearsed with the band (now joined by drummer Dave Krusen) for a week, writing eleven songs in the process. Vedder was soon hired as the band's singer, and the group signed to Epic Records shortly thereafter.

The band, then named Mookie Blaylock, entered London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington in March 1991 with producer Rick Parashar to record its debut album. A few tracks were previously recorded at London Bridge in January, but only "Alive" was carried over from that session. The album sessions were quick and lasted only a month, mainly due to the band having already written most of the material for the record. "Porch", "Deep", "Why Go", and "Garden" were first recorded during the album sessions, everything else had been previously recorded during demo sessions at some point. McCready said that "Ten was mostly Stone and Jeff; me and Eddie were along for the ride at that time." Ament stated, "We knew we were still a long way from being a real band at that point."

The recording sessions for Ten were completed in May 1991. Krusen left the band once the sessions were completed, checking himself into rehabilitation. According to Krusen, he was suffering from personal problems at the time. Krusen said, "It was a great experience. I felt from the beginning of that band that it was something special," and added, "They had to let me go. I couldn't stop drinking, and it was causing problems. They gave me many chances, but I couldn't get it together." The band joined Tim Palmer in June in England for mixing. Palmer decided to mix the album at Ridge Farm Studios in Dorking, a converted farm that according to Palmer was "about as far away from an L.A. or New York studio as you can get." Palmer made a few additions to the already-recorded songs, including having McCready finish up the guitar solo on "Alive" and tweaking the intro to "Black". Palmer overdubbed a pepper shaker and a fire extinguisher as percussion on "Oceans".

Ten initially sold slowly upon its release, but by the second half of 1992 it became a breakthrough success, attaining an RIAA gold certification. Almost a year after its release, the album finally broke into the top ten of the Billboard 200 album chart on May 30, 1992, reaching number eight. Ten would eventually peak at number two. It was held off the top spot by the Billy Ray Cyrus album, Some Gave All. By February 1993, American sales of Ten surpassed those of Nevermind, the breakthrough album by fellow grunge band Nirvana. Ten continued to sell well two years after its release; in 1993 it was the eighth best-selling album in the United States, outselling Pearl Jam's second album, Vs. As of April 2009, Ten has sold 9.6 million copies in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan, and has been certified thirteen times platinum by the RIAA.

The album's cover art features the members of the band at the time of recording in a group pose and standing in front of a wood cut-out of the name "Pearl Jam". The wood cut-out was constructed by Ament. Ament said, "The original concept was about really being together as a group and entering into the world of music as a true band...a sort of all-for-one deal." Ament is credited for the album's artwork and art direction, Lance Mercer receives credit for photography, and both Lisa Sparagano and Risa Zaitschek are credited for design. Ament stated, "There was a bit of headbutting going on with the Sony art department at that time. The version that everybody got to know as the Ten album cover was pink and it was originally intended to be more of a burgundy color and the picture of the band was supposed to be black and white." Pearl Jam's original name was taken from the professional basketball player Mookie Blaylock. It was changed after the band signed to Epic Records, as record executives were concerned about intellectual property and naming rights following Blaylock's inking of an endorsement deal with Nike. In commemoration of the band's original name, the band titled its first album Ten after Blaylock's jersey number.

I bought all of these brand new back when they were released, hardly ever played them, they are all 100% complete and immaculate! Some of these are sooo rare. Hole - Live Through This (1994)

Release Info: Live Through This is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Hole, following the band's debut album, Pretty on the Inside (1991). It was released by Geffen records on April 12, 1994, just four days after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, was found dead in their home. It was also bassist Kristen Pfaff's last musical collaboration before her death in June 1994.

The album contained five singles, including "Doll Parts" and "Violet" which garnered the most critical attention and highest-ranking Billboard positions, with "Doll Parts" reaching number 58 in the Billboard's Hot 100 as well as peaking at number 4 in the top Modern Rock Tracks.

The album received unanimous critical acclaim, and is often regarded as Hole's best album, and as one of the greatest albums of all time, selling over two million copies worldwide and going multi-platinum within a year of its release. Rolling Stone named it the best album of 1994, as well as later awarding it a spot on their list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Sessions for Hole's second album begun initially in Paris in May 1993 with Nirvana producer, Butch Vig. Nothing is reported to have come from the sessions, and a second attempt at recording the album was done at Hanzek Audio in Seattle in August 1993 with producers and engineers, Chris Hanzek, Jack Endino and Craig Montgomery. During this attempt at recording Live Through This the band recorded instrumental versions of a number of songs, including "Jennifer's Body" and the unused Nirvana song "Talk To Me", however the session "wasn't very productive" and eventually, the recordings were left in the studio for years before Eric Erlandson reclaimed them.

The sessions for Live Through This began on October 8, 1993 at Triclops Studios in Atlanta, where The Smashing Pumpkins - friends of the band - recorded their second studio album, Siamese Dream. The first week of recording was spent record basic tracks, such as drums, bass, scratch guitars, and scratch vocals. After the first tracks were laid down, Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, joined the band in-studio on November 18 before Nirvana were set to tour to promote their latest album, In Utero. When shown the work in progress, the band invited Cobain to sing on a few unfinished numbers. Cobain refused at first, due to being unfamiliar with the material. When Cobain asked, "how can I sing on it if I haven't heard it?", Courtney answered by encouraging him to "just sing off the top of [his] head."

Due to this and that a year earlier, a b-side for "Beautiful Son", "Old Age" was credited as being written by Hole but the song had been recorded a year before by Cobain's band Nirvana, there have been unsubstantiated rumors regarding Cobain's involvement in this record, from alleged instrumental and songwriting contributions, to claims that he effectively wrote the entire album. What is known is that Cobain sang background vocals for two tracks, according to both Erlandson and Love; he can be heard in the bridge of the released version of "Asking For It", though his vocals are low in the mix and during "Softer, Softest." An alternate mix of "Asking For It" was broadcast on radio in 1994 which more prominently features his singing. Some recent claims state he can be heard at some point in "Doll Parts". Having taken a break for dinner, the session devolved into a formless jam with Cobain on drums, Eric and Courtney on guitars and session co-producer Sean Slade on bass. The band eventually finished on October 31 and finished off their stay in Atlanta with a show at The Masquerade.

The album is dedicated to the memory of Joe Cole, a roadie for Black Flag and the Rollins Band who was shot to death in a 1991 after attending a Hole show at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood. The album was noted for being more accessible and melodic than the band's previous album, Pretty on the Inside. According to BMI's website, most of the songs credited officially to Hole were written just by Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson. "Doll Parts" was officially written only by Love and "I Think That I Would Die" was written by Erlandson, Love and Kat Bjelland. "Credit in the Straight World" is a Young Marble Giants cover.

Bassist Kristen Pfaff had decided to take a break from the band at the time of Cobain's death in April, 1994. In June 1994, she was found dead by boyfriend and bandmate Eric Erlandson from a supposed heroin overdose. Two months after Kristen's death, Hole began an extensive tour, with Melissa Auf der Maur replacing her on bass.

A song entitled "Rock Star", which took a swipe at The Lemonheads, was originally slated to close the album, however the band chose to replace it with the track "Olympia." Since the artwork had already been printed, however, the title of "Rock Star" remained and was also used for further releases. There was also concern about the lyric "barrel of laughs to be Nirvana, hope you'd rather die." To those not aware that Live Through This was completed before Cobain's death, the lyric could be potentially misconstrued as a reference made in poor taste regarding the discovery of Cobain's body (the same could be said of the album title as well, but the title was actually lifted from the lyrics for "Asking For It" which, coincidentally, featured Cobain on guest vocals).

Four singles were released from the album and three promotional videos were shot, for "Miss World" (still with Kristen Pfaff), "Doll Parts" (with L7's bassist Jennifer Finch replacing her) and "Violet" (already with Melissa Auf der Maur). "Softer, Softest" was also released as a single, and Hole's performance of this song at their MTV Unplugged session was used as a promotional video.

Model Leilani Bishop is shown on the cover of the album, and the back cover features a young Courtney Love in New Zealand in her childhood. Journalist and friend of Hole, Everett True, titled a book after the album, which details the rise and fall of the early grunge bands of the Nineties.

Stone Temple Pilots on VINYL!

They only released two of their albums on vinyl in the U.S. and I've got them both available here! They just so happen to be two of their best, too!

Stone Temple Pilots, often abbreviated to STP, are an American rock band that consists of Scott Weiland (lead vocals), brothers Robert DeLeo (bass guitar, vocals) and Dean DeLeo (guitar), and Eric Kretz (drums, percussion).

The band found immediate success with the release of their debut album Core in 1992, which is certified 8× platinum by the RIAA. STP went on to become one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1990s, selling nearly 40 million records worldwide, including 17.5 million units in the United States. The band has had 16 top ten singles on the Billboard rock charts, seven of which peaked at #1, and one #1 album for Purple in 1994. That same year, the band won a Grammy for "Best Hard Rock Performance" for the song "Plush" from the album Core. Stone Temple Pilots were also ranked #40 on VH1's The 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.

Weiland's continual drug offenses caused multiple concert cancellations and band separations. These setbacks resulted in the creation of various alternate bands by each of the band members (see The Magnificent Bastards, Talk Show, Army of Anyone, Velvet Revolver) and two solo albums by Weiland. Kretz would go on to launch Bomb Shelter Studios in Los Angeles. The band's separation in 2003 lasted five years. Stone Temple Pilots reunited in April 2008 with a successful 71-date tour and the band's eponymous sixth studio album was released on May 25, 2010.

Release Info: Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop is the third album by American rock band Stone Temple Pilots, released on March 26, 1996 on Atlantic Records. Tiny Music displays a drastic change in the band's sound, featuring music strongly influenced by 60s rock and bands such as The Beatles. After a brief hiatus in 1995, STP regrouped to record Tiny Music, living and recording the album together in a mansion in Santa Barbara, California. The album had three singles reach #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including "Big Bang Baby", "Lady Picture Show", and "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart."

In 1995, lead singer Scott Weiland was caught and convicted of buying crack cocaine. He was sentenced to one year's probation. Issues with drug use did not clear up after his sentence, and STP was forced to cancel most of their 1996-1997 tour for Tiny Music. Because of the tour cancellation, Tiny Music did not receive as much exposure as initially intended. The album was certified 2× platinum but was not as commercially successful as STP's first two albums.

Release Info: Purple is the second album released by the American alternative rock band Stone Temple Pilots, on June 7, 1994 on Atlantic Records. It spawned three singles — "Big Empty", "Vasoline", and "Interstate Love Song" — and two promotional singles ("Pretty Penny" and "Unglued"). The album was a big success for the band, debuting at #1 and remaining there for three weeks, and being certified 6× platinum.

In 2006, the album was ranked number 73 on Guitar World magazine's list of the 100 greatest guitar albums of all time.

The album's first single, "Big Empty", made its debut at STP's MTV Unplugged acoustic performance in 1993. The song would later appear on the soundtrack to The Crow. The Crow soundtrack reached number #1 in 1994 and a couple of weeks later, Purple reached the top of the charts, thus making two for the band in 1994.

While Purple still features strong elements of hard rock and grunge like its predecessor, Core, the album displays the band developing a more unique sound influenced by other genres, such as the psychedelic rock evident in "Lounge Fly" and "Silvergun Superman", the country vibes of "Interstate Love Song" and ragtime elements of "Big Empty".

The album title, "Purple," is written as a Chinese character on the cover, and nowhere else on the packaging (including along the spine). When asked about the title in an interview, vocalist Scott Weiland replied "It's my favorite color. It's the color of bruises."

On the cover of the cassette version of Purple, the child is holding the Chinese letter in his hand, and it is not in the corner. There are two pressings of the actual disc in Purple CDs. One version has flowers on it and another has dragon scales.

Release Info: Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace is the sixth studio album by the Foo Fighters, released on September 25, 2007. The album debuted at the top of the UK album chart, selling 135,685 albums in its first week. The album also went platinum in its first week in both Australia and New Zealand. In the U.S., it entered the Billboard 200 album chart at #3, selling 168,668 copies in its first week, and has since been certified gold. As of September 4, 2008, it has sold 792,612 copies in US.

The album was the band's fourth to have a song reach the top of the Modern Rock Tracks, with "The Pretender", as well as "Long Road to Ruin" and "Let It Die". With 18 weeks at the summit, "The Pretender" also set the record for longest stretch at #1 on Billboard's Alternative / Modern Rock chart. With "Long Road to Ruin" (7 weeks at #1) and "Let It Die" (4 weeks at #1), the album has a total of 29 weeks atop the chart, making it the most successful album on the chart since Linkin Park's Meteora. Also with "Let It Die", it became the group's first album to spawn three Number One hits on the Modern Rock Tracks charts. It was only the ninth album in history to spawn 3 number 1 hits on this chart.

The album won the 2008 Grammy for Best Rock Album and "The Pretender" won for Best Hard Rock Performance. The album was also nominated for Album of the Year, while "The Pretender" was also nominated for Record of the Year and Best Rock Song. The band had previously won Best Rock Album Grammys for There Is Nothing Left to Lose and One by One. The album also won Best International Album at the 2008 Brit Awards.

In an interview with XFM on April 26, 2007, front man Dave Grohl noted, "We've been in the studio for the past month and a half, and we've got about another month to go. We've been recording with our friend Gil Norton. He worked on our second record (The Colour and the Shape), he's a good guy and he makes amazing albums. So we're making a really big powerful record, which I'm very excited about... I can't wait to jump on stage and do this stuff, it's gonna be great."

Kaki King makes a guest appearance on "Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners". The instrumental was written by Grohl prior to a meeting with one of the miners involved in the Beaconsfield mine collapse.

The album's first single, "The Pretender", was released on September 17, 2007 to CD single, however was released as music download and radio play in August 2007, preceding the album launch. "Long Road to Ruin" was released as the second single in December 2007.

The album's title comes from a lyric on the album's final song, "Home". The cover art was made by Invisible Creature, and features a combination between a torpedo and a guitar amplifier tube to juxtapose the weapon "with another object that traditionally wasn’t associated with war or violence". The remainder of the album sleeve has similar juxtapositions of objects "that reflected the album’s tone of life and mortality".

Initial critical response to Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace was positive. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has received an average score of 71, based on 30 reviews.

The title of this album, Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, was also the name of a One Tree Hill episode, Season 5, episode 13, with 'Home' used in the same OTH episode. The song was also featured in Season 14, Episode 8 ("Coming Home") of ER.

Two songs from Echoes would later be on the band's Greatest Hits album, "The Pretender" and "Long Road to Ruin."

In the United States the album performed poorly compared to its predecessor In Your Honor - it debuted at the third spot of the Billboard 200, with 168,000 copies sold (while In Your Honor was second with 311,000), and eventually received a RIAA Gold Certification, being the only studio album by the band to not attain Platinum status in America. In Canada the album went Platinum, in the UK the album went 2 X Platinum, and in Australia the album went triple Platinum.

Release Info: The Colour And The Shape is the Foo Fighters' second album. It was released on May 20, 1997, through Roswell/Capitol Records. The album reached number three in the UK and number ten in the United States. The Colour and the Shape is the Foo Fighters' biggest U.S. seller, having sold over two million copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The album was nominated for 5 VMAs in 1997 and 1998, for the videos "Monkey Wrench" and "Everlong". It was also a Grammy nominee for Best Rock Album in 1998.

The album was the debut of the Foo Fighters as a band, as frontman Dave Grohl had recorded all of the first album by himself with the exception of one guitar part by Greg Dulli. The Colour and the Shape was produced by Gil Norton, who was perhaps best known for his work with the Pixies. It was loosely conceived by Grohl as a concept album which documented the beginning and end of a romantic relationship. Over the course of the making of the album, Grohl's own marriage to photographer Jennifer Youngblood ultimately ended in divorce.

After six weeks of work at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, the band took two weeks off from recording. Grohl returned to Virginia and wrote several new songs, recording one of them, "Walking After You", by himself at WGNS Studios in Washington, DC. The band (minus drummer William Goldsmith) relocated to Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood, California, and re-recorded most of the album with Grohl performing the drum tracks.

Even though the Foo Fighters are an American band, the word 'Colour' in the album title is always spelled with the British spelling. This was a nod to producer Norton, who is British.

Release Info: Foo Fighters is the debut album by Foo Fighters, at the time of conception, a pseudonym for Dave Grohl who wrote and recorded the entire album himself at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, Washington, prior to organizing a band. It was released July 4, 1995 on Capitol Records through Grohl's imprint label, Roswell Records.

Following the organization of a band, the album was promoted through constant touring throughout 1995 and much of 1996. Foo Fighters would go on to spawn six singles in all, the most to be released from any Foo Fighters album, until 2005's In Your Honor, which also issued six.


Following the demise of Nirvana, and after a brief stint with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, musician Dave Grohl entered Robert Lang Studios with producer Barrett Jones in October 1994 to record some songs he had written. Grohl had been recording his own music for years prior, releasing the album Pocketwatch in 1992, under the name Late!. Like Pocketwatch, Grohl would record all vocal, guitar, bass and drum tracks himself, with the exception of a guitar part on "X-Static" provided by Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs. Grohl had previously worked with Jones, who helped produce Pocketwatch, and the studio setting of Robert Lang was familiar, due to Nirvana having recorded what would be their final session there, just nine months earlier.

Grohl completed an album's worth of material in about a week, and soon after was handing out cassette copies of the session to friends for feedback. Eddie Vedder premiered two songs from the recording on January 8, 1995 during his Self-Pollution radio broadcast. The recordings quickly circulated amongst the music industry, which in turn created record label interest. In an attempt to keep his anonymity, Grohl planned to release the songs under the name Foo Fighters, and soon recruited former Sunny Day Real Estate members; bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith, as well as Nirvana touring guitarist, and former Germs member, Pat Smear, to create a band that could perform the songs live.

That spring, Foo Fighters embarked on their first ever US tour with Hovercraft, supporting Mike Watt, who had just released his debut solo album that featured appearances by both Grohl and Smear. The tour would also be the first for Hovercraft, whose line-up included Vedder at the time. As well as performing with their own bands, Grohl and Vedder each picked up a role as a member of Watt's backing band throughout the tour, supplying drums and guitar respectively. Foo Fighters released "Exhausted" as their first single, issued on promotional 12" vinyl, followed shortly after by the bands first commercial single, "This Is a Call", released on June 19, 1995, prior to the albums' release.

Foo Fighters was released July 4, 1995 on Roswell Records, distributed by Capitol Records. To further establish the fact that Foo Fighters were now a full fledged band, photos of the entire lineup appeared in the liner notes, despite Grohl being the album's only contributer.

In all, half of the songs from Foo Fighters would be released as singles, including four commercial and two promotional releases. The album peaked at #3 in the UK and #23 in the US on the Billboard 200, being certified Platinum on January 26, 1996. It was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the 1996 Grammy Awards ceremony, but lost to MTV Unplugged in New York, an album by Grohl's former band Nirvana. Foo Fighters also won the band their first and only Video Music Award for "Big Me" at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards.

 The name "Foo Fighters" was taken from the description World War II aircraft pilots would use to describe various UFOs. This theme is further continued with the album, released on Grohl's Capitol Records imprint, Roswell Records, a reference to Roswell, New Mexico known for the Roswell UFO incident of 1947. The gun featured on the album cover is the XZ-38 Disintegrator Pistol, which was originally released in 1935 as a tie-in toy for the Buck Rogers comic strip and radio show. The cover was shot by Grohl's then-wife, photographer Jennifer Youngblood. The album does not include lyrics to the songs in the booklet.

Batter Up! Foo Fighters at the Plate!

OK, so I'm throwing out the whole idea of listing in alphabetical order. I've realized it doesn't make sense to do it that way - I'm thinking now that I'll list common genres/styles and similar artists and I'm going to start with 90's alternative rock. First band to be listed in this vein will be the Foo Fighters. I've already made a couple of deals for some of my Foo items so I'm letting go of what I have left. All of these releases are original first pressings, some extremely rare. All are in near mint condition and include any extras they were packaged with.

Foo Fighters is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1995. Drummer Dave Grohl formed the group as a one-man project after the dissolution of his previous band, Nirvana, in 1994. Prior to the release of the band's eponymous debut album in 1995, Grohl drafted Nate Mendel as bassist, William Goldsmith as drummer, and Pat Smear as guitarist to complete the group. The band was small, young, and began with performances in Portland, Oregon before gaining popularity. Goldsmith left during the recording of the group's second album, The Colour and the Shape (1997), and Smear's departure followed soon afterward. They were replaced by Taylor Hawkins and Franz Stahl, respectively, although Stahl left prior to the recording of the group's third album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999).

Chris Shiflett joined as the band's third guitarist after the completion of There Is Nothing Left to Lose. The band released its fourth album, One by One, in 2002. The group followed that release with the two-disc In Your Honor (2005), which was split between acoustic songs and harder-rocking material. Foo Fighters released its sixth album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, in 2007. Over the course of the band's existence, three of its albums have won Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album, and all six have been nominated for Grammys.

Release Info: Sea Change is the eighth studio album by American alternative rock artist Beck and was released in September 2002. Inspired by the dissolution of a relationship, Sea Change received glowing reviews upon its release.

Sea Change peaked at #8 on Billboard's Top 200 chart and was eventually certified gold in March 2005. In the UK charts, it peaked at #20. As of July 2008, Sea Change has sold 680,000 copies in the United States. 

On Sea Change, much of Beck's trademark recondite, ironic lyrics were replaced by more sincere, simpler lyrical content. He also eschewed the heavy sampling of his previous albums for real, live instrumentation. In interviews, Beck cited the breakup with his long-term girlfriend as the major influence on the album.

In 2002, Sea Change was one of only two albums to receive Rolling Stone magazine's highest rating of five stars, the other being Bruce Springsteen's The Rising. The magazine went on to call it the best album of 2002. The next year, the album was ranked number 440 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. It was ranked number 17 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 best albums of the 00s.

Sea Change was released with four different album covers, each version containing distinct artwork on the CD and the booklet. There were also different hidden messages (lyrical snippets) written under each version's CD tray.

The original cover art for the album was used as an effigy in the music video for lead single "Lost Cause".

It is said that the album sound concept is inspired by the sound of Serge Gainsbourg's album Histoire de Melody Nelson. Beck would later produce an album for, and record with, Gainsbourg's daughter Charlotte.
