Avett Brothers to Produce New G. Love LP

I was already a big fan of G. Love - though it's been a while since he recorded something that had the same affect on me as his earlier albums - but hearing that the Avett Brothers will be producing his next album made me giddy with anticipation.

The Avetts, it turns out, are big fans, too. And having a great appreciation for the modernized "back porch" style of blues played by G. Love (even going as far as saying it was what inspired them to stay true to their musical heritage) and both artists performing in June at moe.’s annual Summer Camp, they quickly bonded.

The recording session, which took place at Echo Mountain Recording Studio in Asheville, NC, came to an end last week and word is the session was powerful, simple and honest. G.Love’s album is scheduled to be released in Spring of 2011.

Below is a jam session on the Avett's tour bus between the artists as recorded by the Avett's bass player, Joe Kwon.

Release Info: "Love and Theft" is singer-songwriter Bob Dylan's 31st studio album, released by Columbia Records in September 2001. The album continued Dylan's artistic comeback following 1997's Time out of Mind, and was given an even more enthusiastic reception. Though often referred to without quotations, the correct title is "Love and Theft". The title of the album was apparently inspired by historian Eric Lott's book Love & Theft: Blackface Minstrelsy and the American Working Class, which was published in 1993. In 2003, the album was ranked #467 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, while Newsweek magazine pronounced it the 2nd best album of its decade.

Release Info: Mermaid Avenue is a 1998 album of previously unheard lyrics written by American folk singer Woody Guthrie, put to music written and performed by British singer Billy Bragg and the American band Wilco. The project was organized by Guthrie's daughter, Nora Guthrie. Mermaid Avenue was released on the Elektra Records label on June 23, 1998. A second volume of recordings, Mermaid Avenue Vol. II, followed in 2000. The projects are named after a song "Mermaid's Avenue" written by Guthrie. This was also the street in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York on which Guthrie lived.
